The quiet symbolism of a bird in flight
As a photographer, I've spent over 40 years creating memories for my clients. But as a spiritual person, I've spent my whole life remembering those I've lost. The symbolism of the seagull comes from Richard Bach's book "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" and its following film and album adaptations. My mother played the record over and over again while mourning the loss of my father when I was a very young child. The music and the imagery of the film became ingrained in me as a metaphor for healing through grief.
I want my clients to know that I understand their grief. I want them to know that I am connected to them through their loss, as I have experienced my own so many times. For every loss of my own, the album and film were both instrumental in understanding death and the celebration of transcendence. I didn't just decide to enter the memorial-film business. I have been aware of what death, grief, memory, and transcendence mean throughout my entire life.
